After going through the rigorous process of receiving your FDA certification, if you think your job is done, you are wrong. From time to time, you need to keep renewing the certificate and for that you need to keep working really hard. You have to be very careful with your FDA registration renewal scheduling, because not renewing them could lead to problems where sales and marketing is concerned. There are some products that just cannot skip the whole process, as it would reflect badly on the brand. Food brands need to get working in the last quarter of the even numbered years. This starts from the 1st of October and the 31st of December. Whether you are a brand involved in manufacturing of the food, processing them, getting them packed, or just holding the food for the consumption of humans and animals. You can be a part of one or all of these parts of the food industry, you do need to keep these five points in your mind when getting your FDA renewal:
1. Registration of Facilities It was originally established in 2002 under the Bioterrorism Act of 2002. But, then there were amendments made by the FSMA of the Food Drug & Cosmetic Act for all foreign and domestic facilities to require new information to FDA. It also asked them to renew the registration of their facility every alternate year. 2. The Difference between Updating & Renewing Your Registration The FDA retains the right to suspend your registration if you have not renewed it before 11:59 PM on the 31st of December. It would also be considered a prohibited act according to the rule and regulations of FSMA. 3. Retail Stores Do Not Require to be Registered Retail operations such as grocery stores and farms; do not need to register while at the same time distribution centers that are owned by retailers need to get registered under the “holding” category. Also needing registration are commissaries that are retailer-owned and central kitchens that don’t count under retail locations. You can always determine your qualification by viewing the FDA’s Retail Food Establishment Exemption Flowchart. 4. Simple Registration All you have to do is visit the FDA registration site and get your registration renewed, before the deadline is missed. 5. You Can Seek Help from the FDA They will provide you with the fact sheets and the complete guidance that you would requires to have the process completed. They would also address any questions that you may have.
